One of our favorite holiday traditions each year is piling into the car, turning up the Christmas music, and driving through Southwest Austin to look at the neighborhood lights. It’s simple, it’s cozy, and it’s one of those things that somehow becomes a core memory — especially with kids.
This year feels a little extra special, because one of Austin’s most loved displays is lighting up for the final time.

1
⭐ 1. Maywald Christmas Light Display (Final Year)
📍 10505 Twilight Vista, Austin, TX 78736
This is the big one — and 2025 is the last year the Maywald Christmas Light Display will be open.
If you’ve ever been, you know why people come back year after year. The display is thoughtful, creative, and done with a level of care you just don’t see often anymore. If you’ve never gone, this is absolutely the year to do it.
👉 Tip: This display draws a crowd. Weeknights are calmer, and arriving earlier in the evening helps.
🎅 2. Kelsing Cove
📍 Search “Kelsing Cove, Austin, TX” in Google Maps
There isn’t one single address here — the magic of Kelsing Cove is the street itself. Several homes decorate, creating a festive little pocket that’s perfect for a slow drive or quick walk.
🌟 3. Hitching Post Circle
📍 Search “Hitching Post Cir, Austin, TX” in Google Maps
Hitching Post Circle is one of those streets where it feels like everyone decided to join in. It’s especially fun for families, and it’s a great place to park nearby and walk if traffic is light.
🎁 4. Ridge Oak Road
📍 Search “Ridge Oak Rd, Austin, TX” in Google Maps
This one’s a bit quieter and more classic. Ridge Oak Road tends to feature elegant, traditional Christmas lighting — perfect if you enjoy a calmer stop in between bigger displays.
🎄 5. Wagon Hitch Cove
📍 Search “Wagon Hitch Cv, Austin, TX” in Google Maps
Wagon Hitch Cove rounds out the tour with bright lights and strong neighborhood holiday spirit. It’s an easy stop to add to the route and a great way to finish the night.
🎉 A Few Local Tips Before You Go
Best time: After sunset (5:30–6:30 PM)
Weeknights are less crowded than weekends
Drive slowly and respectfully — these are family neighborhoods
When possible, park and walk
Hot cocoa and Christmas playlists are highly recommended ☕🎶
Southwest Austin has some truly special holiday displays, and with this being the final year of the Maywald Christmas Light Display, it feels like a season worth savoring.
If you’re new to the area or just looking for a reason to get out and explore, this is a great way to experience the community.
✨ Merry Christmas and enjoy the lights!
