If you used Facebook at any point from May 2007 to December 2022, you may be eligible for a sum of money. This is because Meta, Facebook's parent company, has agreed to a $725 million settlement with users who claimed that Facebook allowed their data to be accessed by third parties without their consent.
The settlement is the result of a class action lawsuit brought after the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which a data firm obtained personal information on millions of Facebook users to target voters. Although Meta denies any wrongdoing, they have agreed to the settlement in order to avoid the costs and risks of a trial.
Final approval of the settlement will take a few months, but users don't need to wait to submit a claim. If you had a Facebook account between May 24, 2007 and December 22, 2022 in the U.S., you are part of the settlement class.
Facebook users can make a claim by visiting Facebookuserprivacysettlement.com and entering their name, address, email address, and confirming they lived in the U.S. and were active on Facebook between the aforementioned dates.
